Motor cuts out during aggressive driving!

Hello all,

well, took the long way home from LA via Mulholland Hwy to PCH. Beautiful day for a spirited drive.

On two different occassions my car just died while driving, once when I really needed to power out of a turn

So, the scenario is that I'll be driving along, step on the gas, and nothing. If I downshift and *pop* the clutch she'll fire right back up after a little backfire, and will be fine....until next time.

The other oddity I noticed is that I'll periodically get a miss when she's idling.

Do you think I'm having a fuel starvation problem?

Really odd.

I appreciate your feedback!

Yeah, a fuel starvation problem would be my guess.

If your fuel accumulator is toast, and the tank is low.

I experienced that on a VW Scirocco way back. (very similar CIS)

Thanks Doc!

Should mention that I had 1/2-3/4 tank of fuel. Also, have not had any hot start issues that can be typical of the accumulator.

Do you know of a way to test, or check it out?

1/2-3/4 tank of fuel . . .hmmm. that changes things.

I would (now) suspect an electrical connection somewhere. you could start the motor and wiggle various connectors to see if you can get it to cut out. (staying away from the high voltage stuff.)

That's just my weak 2˘ worth. . . .maybe John Walker will chime in with the most likely thing to check.

When you say spirited, are you hitting redline or beyond? Are you hitting the fuel cut-off RPM? This happend to me once, and it totally freaked me out. It wasn't until I got home that I realize what happened. Needless to say I babied it allt he way home.

Hey Souk, no, not hitting the rev limiter, but probably close more than once

It's just wierd, step on the pedal and nothing happens. This is the third time overall.

I'll check electrical stuff and go from there.
