Install help - Clutch pedal helper spring
 

is there a trick to installing the clutch pedal helper spring #21. Perhaps I am not strong enough to pull it and haven't been able to pry it on. Whats the secret???

I seem to remember a post on the forums where someone mounted one end of the spring in a bench vice and pulled on the other end while inserting washers between the coils one at a time. I would think you would need to tape the washers in place to prevent them falling out after each pull. Then after there are several washers in place (the spring is lengthened), it can be installed. Remove the washers after installation.

I have never done this job, but this method makes sense.

Buy a KD tool used for installing drum brake retaining springs. Cup end of the tool sits on the knob, the spring hook slides down the tool shaft as you pry the tool outward and the spring pops over the knob. Tool is shortened to do it when the cluster is in the car so it clears the wheel well hump.

What John said! By far the easiest way I ever found! A little grease on the spring hook helps to let the spring slide into place. I did the install after putting the pedal box back into the car.

My car didn't have the spring, clutch worked fine, shifted fine etc - there was a bit of slack for pedal raising even with the brake pedal.

With the spring so strong - will it be a bear to depress clutch when spring is installed? I was almost tempted to not install it.
