Identity of sensor/switch
 

I busted the tab on the sensor/switch that screws into top of crankcase ventilation cap.
What is that sensor called, so that I can order a replacement?
Is it a universal item that can be picked up at local auto parts stores or is it Porsche specific?
A part number would also help.

What year? Photo? Have you downloaded a copy of the PET (Porsche parts catalog)? Very helpful for stuf like this, and much beyond. John

That's part of the CIS system. It's a temperature sensor. The part number is 930 606 117 01.

I don't think those are available any more. You'll have to try to get one from a breakers like DC Automotive or Partsheaven something like that. You should be able to hunt one down.

Actually ask boyt911sc - Tony - I bet he'll have one you can buy from him.

Thank you gazzerr. The guys at local German car shop identified that sensor earlier today.
They can't supply it but thanks for the heads up. I'll contact Tony to see if he can help

John I'll take your suggestion and find and download the PET. I'm sure l make use of it, although it's probably quicker and more fun asking you guys.

No worries good luck with it. I'd be very surprised if Tony didn't have one he could sell to you.

If the tab is not snapped off in the body of the sensor and you have something to work with you might be able to solder it back together.

Go visit your local auto supply stores or dismantlers and inquire. These are commonly used in CIS engines circa 80’s. Or post a WTB ad in the classified section. Wish I could help you but I need them for my work.

If Tony or someone could please help, my 35DegC switch on crankcase breather lid is also busted, part number 930 606 117 01. From freezer to hair dryer always open and it makes a rattling sound. Is this switch open below 35DegC and closed above 35DegC? If so, would anyone know if 930 606 117 03, used on the 84-89 carrera, also a 35DegC has the same open closed configuration, and could I use it?
I've searched everywhere, Bentley has the opposite view on the switch operation than 911 CIS Primer - CIS Lambda description so I am unsure.

Testing the 35°C temperature switch..........

I received your email inquiring about the 35°C temperature switch. Went down to my basement and looked for 35°C temp. switches to test. These were the test results:
Freezer..........................open (no continuity).
Room temp....................open (no continuity).
Using a heat gun............closed (test light comes ON).

Thank you. I agree after disassembly of the old part and noting which way the bi-metallic contact switch moved from freezer to hairdryer hot using a split ball gauge to measure distance travelled and what direction. But here's the new problem, I can't source the same part and there is no other part suggested through Porsche, but,

I can easily source 930 606 117 03, used in the turbo and later 87-89 911 these are available at many locations under different part numbers but the stamp is clearly shown as the 03 part, the problem is, I've contacted two distributors and googled the part to death and there is no direct information about whether it's normally open or closed. There is only one hint and it's based on an old schematic for a turbo that shows this part normally closed so it would not be compatible.

Would someone please let me know if 930 606 117 03 is a normally open switch like the one I'm looking for as described by Tony or is it normally closed as in the schematic of the link posted?
