Windshield woes
I’ve got an 89’ 3.2 coupe with that looks like to be a 964 gasket. This car is new to me as of last year. I called Safelite to replace the windshield and their two guys are having a hard time with the glass, gasket and metal frame inserts. Granted it doesn’t come with the inserts when I got it. The seal is the cheap URO from Pelican but I went with it because it covered the corners more than the OEM seal. Well the inside doesn’t come close to completely covering the punch welds like the other gasket did.
If the car came with a metal frame does that mean the rear would have a metal frame as well? Did the factory start using frameless seals in later 89 3.2’s as they got closer to the 964? I’m totally stumped and so are the Safelite guys. I applaud their patience. This is their third time here. First time I had the URO seal but didn’t realize I needed the metal frame since my car didn’t have one. The gasket I ordered has the gap for them. Second time the cheap URO Seal literally split apart in my hands at the section where it’s clued together from manufacturing. Swapped it this morning, thank god Pelican is down the street from me, and now in windshield hell. Thoughts? |

The 964 seal does not get the metal trim. Also buy the Porsche seal . A buddy and me just did mine took 15 minutes. Get some 3m strip caulk and use it in the corners.

Right, just wondering if the 3.2 ever came from the factory without the metal frame.
