Trailer Hitch for 911SC
I've read about them and I even saw one in person last weekend. Now I'm going to take the plunge and get one for myself. I made an appointment this morning with EuroWerks, my somewhat local Porsche shop, to get a custom trailer hitch fabricated for my 911SC. I'm hoping to end up with one that is a little more elegant than the simple solution of attaching a custom piece of angle iron to the bumper. Even though it is effective and has worked for four years on the car I saw over the weekend, I want something a little more subtle. The plan as it stands right now is to create a hidden hitch behind the license plate. The license plate will be hinged to allow for easy access. I don't know exactly how all this will be done yet, but the shop has two metal sculptors that are up to the task. The hinged license plate idea was theirs. For support, the hitch will be attached to the bolt points that secure the bumper shocks. I'm not sure how all this will work once the work begins, but I will keep everyone posted as I can. I am going to ask that they document the process and take some digital photos (I'll provide my camera if need be). The car goes into the shop next Monday.
Next step will be to make a neat little trailer to tow. So far I've found a few good plans on the web: Autocross Trailer (Porsche Boxster Owner) Doug Meinen Autocross Trailer Autocross Trailer (Bob's) Autocross Trailer for Your Miata I'm open to comments and suggestions regarding the hitch and the trailer. I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone that has used (or seen used) the folding trailer that Harbor Freight carries. After I build the thing I'm going to need a place to store it and my garage space is very limited right now. I know I don't have room for any of the examples I listed above so I'm going to have to consider renting a storage unit if something can't be worked out with a folding trailer (I don't hold a lot of hope on that one).

I wouldn't do it.
When I removed my bumper for the repaint I had a look at how it's held on, and I wouldn't attach a tow bar to the back bumper. Maybe if it is attached to the chassis where the defromation tubes join would be ok. Here in Wellington a guy has one that is just a 8" by 4" plate (with the tow bar attached) bolted to the back bumper. I don't know how it has passed the tough goverment inspections ![]() |

It shouldnt be done.
But if you must put a tow bar on a 911, howabout extend it down a tad and put a couple of skateboard wheels on the ends...wheelie bars!
