“Soggy” gas pedal

1987 Carrera. When I step on the gas to blip the engine while shifting, I only get a slow, mild acceleration. If I hit it twice, it works better. Same thing under load when I want to do a fast acceleration—I need to kind of “pop” it twice. Any ideas?

Could also be the bushings by the accelerator pedal. Mine we basically dust and small pieces.
