Floor jack question

How high would I have to lift my 1985 911 with a jack pad in order to lift my car on 13 1/2 ESCO jack stands. Looking at Harbor Freight 2.5 ton aluminum racing jacks

I hate wood blocks and don’t ever want to put any of my cars on wood blocks. Just saying....
Wood blocks can get scary and wood can crack and break. I personally just don’t want to take any chances getting under a car. There was a very scary picture of a guy whose car fell on his face on one of the forums. Invest in good support stands, make the car super stable, cheap jack is ok, just don’t use it to support the car...

I wouldn’t put the car on wood blocks ever and I don’t think that is what he means. I use them to get additional height between the jack and the jack pad. I also raise each side incrementally stepping my way up to desired height.

DKennel,

Are you aware that the largest and heaviest steel ships like an aircraft carrier in a dry dock are supported by wood blocks or timber? Wood blocks are more safer and stable than our favorite three/four legged metal jack stands. Just my two-cents.

Just bought a 3 ton aluminum racing jack from harbor freight, shouldn’t have any problem lifting the cat on the jack stands

I wasn't saying to put the car on wood. Hardwood is suitable to put on a jack pad to extend height.

Just changed the oil, and with the Esco stands and 3 ton floor jack, the car is solid as a rock, with more room underneath. Should have bought the set up years ago. So, It's good buy to the cheesy craftsman jack and stands. This was the first time I felt safe under the car.

Ya, but, aren't 3 enough. There's 3 points in a plain and if the stands were poorly manufactured, only three would be touching the ground.

We always throw a hockey puck on the jack. You can get them pretty cheap at any sporting good store or amazon.
