12 Point JB Racing (or other) distributor question
I am looking into a 12 point Dizzy for my '75's 964 motor, since I have to replace the caps, rotors, and plug wires. My current dizzy also has a broken plastic plug connector, which means water leaks into the dizzy every time it rain (often here in Florida). My understanding is fixing that means taking the dizzy completely appart. As a result, I am considering getting a 12 point setup. It looks better, eliminates having to tear mine apart, would be slewed up, etc etc.
If I am running the factory DME etc, which dizzy do I need to choose? Internal Magnetic Pickup? External? 27mm or 30mm. Clockwise or counter clockwise, which bracket? The Pelican add and the JB Racing website don't seem to have this info. The motor is a 1994 964 motor. |
Hi Chris,
I cant help re mechanical fitment, but the 964 uses a crankwheel trigger, so you do not need a pickup in the distributor at all. Just ask about the price of caps if you go 12 point. |
twin plug
To keep it simple there are 3 crank brass distributor drive gears.Early 65-77 clockwise,Middie 78-83 counter clockwise.Later 84 and up clockwise.Early and later clockwise have different backlash spec.to distributor drive gear.Example,if you use a dizzy from a 73 motor on an 86 3.2L there is much more backlash. So for your motor a 30mm shaft with dizzy drive gear to match your 964 motor.Fred
