Rennshift manual or auto reverse lockout

I have one of these ordered. I saw a comment or two here about the reverse lockout

I’m wondering those of you that have had it a while, what have you preferred, the manual or the auto lockout?

Doesn’t seem like much work to change them out to try both but I’m just curious

Ive had the manual switch on mine for 12 years or so...Never had a problem with it, easy enough to flip the switch. Great product!

Besides having to manually switch it, any benefit to either?

And if using the manual lockout, what is the point of switching it off ever? I’m having trouble understanding the point of this

There are basically 2 reverse lockout options supplied with the rennshift. The auto, which works similar to the factory shifter, where the spring loaded tab will let you shift to reverse when coming from the neutral position, but will block reverse when coming fifth, forcing the downshift into 4th.

The manual option locks all entry to reverse. You have to manually reach down and move a lever to allow shifting into reverse. This manual movement of the reverse lockout is necessary every time you want to be able to shift into reverse.

I found the manual lockout a PITA so flipped the gate over and life is good.

I run a manual on mine. Only challenge I have with that is that the shift linkage in the back of the tunnel has to be set correctly. Be careful when you put the shifter in and make sure that the lockout actually works properly. Mine did not initially and I had to adjust the shifter linkage at the rear of the tunnel.

Good to know thanks

In other words, if you double clutch, then choose the manual setting?

huh?

The auto setting is a spring loaded finger that blocks the shifter from going straight down if you are in the 5-R plane. If you are in the N plane you can direct the shifter right and it pushes the finger and compresses the spring and you can go into 5th or R.

Like Duc Hunter mentioned, double check that you have the shift coupler adjusted so that the lock actually works. I had to adjust mine too because it wasn't going over to the right far enough to be blocked by the finger.

This shifter is such a great upgrade though. It transforms the car.

If you are double clutching on a 5-4 shift you, by definition, move into neutral before 4. I would thus assume that the automatic setting is no longer in effect since the next shift is coming out of neutral.

Aww, gotcha. But double clutching the 5-4 shift is like flossing your teeth. Nobody actually does it every day. LOL
