Tuning Questions
Cheers,
First post on the forums so I apologize if these questions have been answered, I did not find any answer from searching. Background: I just recently purchased a Stock 84 3.2 that came from California that has the original computer that I am going to remove and keep stock and untouched. I already purchased a used computer that has been converted over from 2k to 4k/24 Pin. It came with a stock chip and with a SW Chip set for headers and 91 octane. I will probably get a new SW Chip since I probably will not be doing header work or I will have Steve reprogram the chip. Two Questions: 1. From, 3.2 Ultimate Exhaust thread - 1984-86 California: 200hp. There is an extra "emissions brain" box under the drivers seat. Disconnect the brown wire for free 7hp. - Can I just unplug this brown wire with my current stock DME first before changing out computers? I still need to decide on exhaust before changing out the computer. 2. Should I convert my used DME from 4k/24 Pin to a 8k/28 Pin Chip...will I see any advantages with the 28pin over the 24pin set up? |

Thanks yea its pretty sexy!
I'm trying to do some tasteful mods nothing crazy, only bolt on. However since it is so untouched I noticed the brown cable is still plugged in. So until I decide on what exhaust I am leaving my stock computer in so I just want to check that I can disconnect the brown wire (emissions brain). |
The brown wire is only connected to pass California emissions. It was not connected in cars sold outside of California. There is no need for it to be connected otherwise, and it will give you a small boost in horsepower.
You should definitely have the used DME converted. There are also problems with the stock DME's having a few poor factory solder connections, and reputable DME repair companies fix them while converting them for the later chips. Another thing to do is buy a spare DME relay or two. One of the common problems with the 3.2 Motronics is failure of the relay. Also due to poor solder connections. Car looks great, enjoy it. |
Great thank your for information!
