Help - removing interior Targa bar covering?
I'm looking at installing a high-mounted interior 3rd brake light inside my '85 Targa to protect against inattentive SUV-types.
Anyone know how the interior trim on the Targa bar is removed? I was thinking that I would remove it and hide the wires underneath as they snake toward the rear firewall and out to the left brake light, but I can't see how the thing is held in place. If all else fails, I suppose I could kind of stuff the wires under the trim, but would like to make this look as 'factory' as possible (and lessen the risk that rear seat passengers (smaller persons) would see a wire and tug on it. Also, any thoughts on what gauge wire to run? I was thinking 14-18 would be sufficient.

on the inside portion of the Targa bar frame are tabs sticking up in the center of the the metal frame located at different points on the length of the targa bar. The inside padded frame has matching metal bridges. The inside padded frame is removed towards the rear window side. I had removed my rear window before removing the padding so I don't know if it would come off with the window installed. There was foam padding and glue around the tabs and bridges. It took alot of pushing to seperate them. The strip of padding on the front portion of the targa bar was mostly glued in place except for the screw bracket where the targa top guide pin goes in.

Why not exterior?
Why not an ET type exterior brake lite?

I'm not real keen on drilling holes in the rear lid in order to mount it. I have one that I bought from someone here on the board, but thought the interior mount would be a cleaner install.

I like it
I had the short profile exterior ET on my car before restoration,
going with the tall stalk one on the refurbished edition.

Don't forget to unbolt the seatbelts' shoulder guides.

thanks for input guys.
Pat - so it sounds like it wouldn't be real easy to remove that padding or just hide the wires under it. Ed - I was planning on unbolting the shoulder belt anchors, but I wasn't sure it that would do it. its never easy ![]()

Attached are 3 photos of the targa bar on my car and you can see the tabs pointing towards the rear window. I think it would be hard to remove just to run wires. you might be able to snake wires up through the troft area and down the side near the seat belt bolt. The pictures look weird since the tub is on a rotisserie and turned 90 degrees
