Detaching the rear shift coupler

I need to replace the rubber boot that covers the opening where the rear shift couple sits.

I just want to make sure I have this correct:

I loosen the hex screw and the coupler should disconnect.

Do I need to mark anything (for alignment when I re-connect)?

Can it be re-assembled easily?

Am I missing anything?

super easy, remove the allen/hex screw. there will be no further alignment or adjustment needed on reassembly, it is a pointed set screw, so it goes back exactly as it came apart. No marks needed.

remove the screw completely, pull the joint apart, you can move the shift lever if it needs a little persuasion.

Yeah if you loosen the other side, you have to go through the whole tedious shift adjust procedure. Worm screw side self-realigns.

Do what you like of course but I didn’t feel the need to put that boot back on. What could possibly happen if you keep the access panel In place? I adjust my coupler, or at least check it’s tightness often enough, that the boot becomes a hassle

Thank you! job done..

The reason I replaced the boot is to keep the access area clean and free from dust dirt etc.. Its more of a basic philosophy for me - keep it clean, keep it functioning.
