UPS has decided to make lots of money it seems.
They have added $103.23 brokerage charge to my Pelican order of $266.00 !!! Please Wayne....don't let me use UPS to canada again....put a warning on the check out area. Bob

Yup, it's expensive
Actually, Wayne has had a few posts regarding the UPS brokerage charge and how to ship parts to Canada effectively. If I'm not mistaken, there is a breakdown of potential charges when you choose your shipping option with Pelican.
Regards, Andrew M

But that's only about US $10 right?
Just kidding. Really sucks though.

It reminded me of why I use the mail drop in Pt. Roberts, WA.
Then at least I can "broker" my own load. Wayne...all the rest of my orders will be to the WA address....that way I will be able to do the rebuild. Bob

I had the same problem. They (UPS) suggested that i use the airmail services, not Ground. Thought the rate is higher, the brokerage fees are included, no matter the price of the goods.
Hope that helps. PS If you wonder how am i copping with my UPS shipments: 1) I dont use UPS, i use USPS. They have yet to loose one of my package, and its usually duty/brokerage free. Only GST. 2) I have a summer house in northern Vermont. About 1 1/2 hour from my home. I go pick it up and acting very creative at the custom office.....

Didn't I warn you about that, last time we were talking? I got gouged by UPS once and *only* once. Robbers!! Any Canadians who (like Bob and I) live fairly close to the border, should establish a USA mail drop. Then you can clear your own shipments personally, just paying Cdn. taxes and duty (if applicable).

I thought pelican had a warning in their info on shipping, against using UPS to ship to Canada. I have used USPS air mail without problems for my last few shipments.

Doug...yes you did....but my brain didn't retain the info.
I should have remembered.....my fault...and one I will never forget. Makes me want to "get even"....must control the impulse to go back to the old ways. What's worse....I know where the central UPS office is !!! Bob

I too have been hit hard with the UPS brokerage fee and now rely on the USPS.
I have heard that you can deny a UPS delivery (from one of their drivers, actually) and do the paperwork yourself at one of their depots... the problem is that your package then goes to places unknown, hoping it will find its way back once you've done the paperwork. Whether this is true or not I am not sure.
