Can I put a 911SC oil tank in a 71' Chassis?
Hey All,
I have a non OEM xover due to my 75' 2.7L in my 71 T Chassis. The 69-72 oil tanks have a smaller fitting. I am looking to add a front oil cooler and therefore would like to get the OEM oil lines without much fitting size drama as well as a OEM crossover. I found an oil tank from a 911SC for a reasonable price. Is it possible to fit it in the 71 Chassis? I assume I can use the oil level sender from the 71. Thanks.

Need to snip out some '71 sheet metal for the later tank to fit. You sure you want to do that?
To make the early oil tanks work with late oil cooler pieces, you just need (2) oil tank hose connector adapters (36>32mm I believe). They're available from BAT, Pegasus, etc. and here (?). The remaining front cooler and thermostat pieces fit in place with their cooler and mounting brackets/clips. Sherwood |

![]() ![]() I can help with adding late 30mm oil hose components to your 71 Oil system. The 71 Tank should already have a 30mm Supply fitting..... ![]() ....so you need my adapter to the S Hose on your Motor. The Return from front cooler to Tank...... ![]() needs my 30mm Hose to 26mm at the Tank. Len dot Cummings at verizon dot net ![]() |

Yea, you can use that adapter. But there is a reason why Porsche went to the larger fittings and oil lines.
Since you have the tank, it is a no brainer to use it. Yea, you will have to cut some metal, but really it is no big deal. The level sender works as do the mounts. The big advantage to the SC tank, is now you can use the factory thermostat and front cooler and associated lines. Here is a Carrera tank in my '71. You can see the patch covering the old filler location. ![]()

I also put a Carrera Oil tank in my 71 911T. Ran a 9 row oil cooler up front. Just a couple cuts to inner sheet metal. Very easy to do.

I have the sheet metal cutout from a later car that would be happy to swap out for the piece you cut out from your car.
