Tool Kit for 1969 911E

Is this the correct tool kit for a '69E? If so, would you leave it as is, or try to clean it up? suggestions for rust removal, esp on the latches? thanx. steve

Steve..whatever you do ..do not use any tools to clean it, the only thing i would clean is the rust on the alternator pulley holder, just some rust remover a little steel wool .then oil it...clean the bag latches and oil it.The jack just lubricate it...get rid of the black screwdriver...You have pretty expensive tool kit there.Just the flat head screwdriver i sold for 200 bucks..i`m sure you get more advice from other members...

on the jack i would be only worried about the exposed steel..some liquid rust remover but again not really rust it is steel;-) it just oxidized...

If you really want to know about your kit, go over to the Early911S BBS (Early 911S Registry). Lots of threads on the topic. The tool kit police over there will set you straight.

Your toolkit bag is original to a 69 (only), they had that tan interior which was one year only.

The black screwdriver doesn't belong.

Most will say that any "selected special steel" tools are incorrect and should be "drop forged steel" with "milled ends". Milled ends is what looks like striations on the ends of the wrench (light grinding marks if you will).

I'd try some rust remover on the items that need it, but would refrain from any refinishing.

On the latches; rust remover, steel wool, chrome cleaner, or any combo thereof. The vinyl is pretty bullet proof, but I'd put some blue tape on the vinyl while you're working on the latches.

Plenty of info on the Early S as has been already mentioned. There's a sticky on toolkits at the top of one of the forums there. You'll get plenty of opinions... I'd just clean it and leave it, and look for some milled end drop forged wrenches while "on your path" with the car.

cheers,
E
