Date Coded Brake lines 7/76 and muffler
 

I am in the midst of a total restore/cleaning of my old 930 3.0

I am almost done and am in the the back end now.,, i.e Engine grease...

While we are cleaning everything off.
I am noticing lot of original dated parts and deciding not to replace them with new.
Like ...the Tie rod ends Ball joints.. and even these brake like have a 7/76 Date and the muffler and even the oil tank sender..
all are in great condition.

DO you guys think am doing the right thing leaving the original 1977 parts thru out.
I think she has seen the hard part of her life already and mostly just gonna sit and shine now.

Date codes on things like brake hoses exist so that you can see when they are too old for safe use and should be replaced. The rest of the stuff you pictured are probably fine, but 43 year old brake hoses? I don't want a ride in that car.

Original parts mean nothing to me.....unless the car is sitting in a museum. Correct parts are important. Safe original condition is great. Brake hoses dated 1976 means the guy didn't maintain the car...or didn't drive it.

I want to say that most brake line manufacturers recommend replacement every 10-12 years. I'm sure a Google would enlighten.

Porsche recommends every 10 years OR 100,000 miles. Whichever comes first.

she has been sitting and only has 30K miles now,..

Clean and seal up the ends, throw them in the bag the new hoses come in. You then have the originals to pass on, and help lessen the chance you have a brake failure and wreck/damage the car.

Safety should be more important than originality in this case!

Who is ever going to check the date on your brake lines? You will be the only one who knows, unless you are bragging about it. Unless the car is museum quality, never to be driven again, keeping them is a fool’s errand.

I don't believe one person who values their life will tell you to keep brake lines from 76 in service; unless you only drive from the garage to the driveway!

Number of miles is immaterial. The rubber and inner reinforcement that holds it together is 43 years old. They are not safe to use.
