So I ordered a 123ignition distributor
 

Talked to Ed who runs the company and decided to give one a try. I like the app feature that lets me change the timing. Should make it easier to tune once I put the motor on the Dyno and in the future as we keep upgrading the motor. Does anyone have a base curve for me to program as a baseline. It’s a stock 82 sc 3.0 with msd ignition and coil with Weber 40 carbs. I’ll share the progress once it come in. Hope to have it by Saturday.

I'll be interested in how this works out for you. This looks like a good alternative to those wanting the programming flexibility.

Arrived on Friday as promised. Hook it up to a power source and set the initial timing to a stock 78 distributor. This will just be the starting point. It’s fully programmable even for a non tech guy like me it’s super user friendly.

The “dash” display allows to make changes while the car is running. I’ll have to take it somewhere to get dynoed and tune once we get it all running.

Thanks for posting. I may head down this direction too, along with PMO 46.

Please keep us updated with your progress and opinion. I like the idea of the programming on the fly.

I think you will like the features the 123 Ignition offers you. For those contemplating a purchase, look at the Bluetooth version, about $40 more. Besides the tuning with your phone you can also control the distributor as a theft deterrent with the same app.

I purchased a 12 plug from 123 Ignition DE. He is not affiliated with Ed at 123 USA but the internal components are the same between the units. The 12 plug distributor body needs some machining to fit a 993 but it is certainly a drop in for 3.0 / 3.2.

^^^That’s a tight fit. Installed mine today all went well. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. It came with no preprogrammed settings so I set one up and after a little tweaking she fired up. Ran a little rough but I’m also having carb issues. Some more things to figure out. Anyone have any idea on a good setting. It’s an 82 3.0 with Weber 40s, headers,and muffled megaphones. Fuel is 80% non ethanol 89 octane with 20% 105 octane race fuel or should I try straight 91,93 octane.What should I try at 1000,2000,3000,4000,5000,6000 rpm settings as far as different advances.

Are you saying there is a version for the SC in 12 plug? Do you have the link? This could be my next project. :D

Is there a load sensing device - vacuum advance???
This would do a good deal for the fuel economy and to some extent the driveability/throttle response.
Very cool that it comes in 12 plug.

Cost for 6/12 plug versions??

Chris, there is a solid state vacuum module and a port to connect vacuum line to. Gives you a choice of a full rpm controlled advance or vac controlled advance.

Neglected to mention that Ed is a solid guy to deal with. He has supplied several distributors for local 911's, all of which are notching up lots of miles with no issues. He does not do supply the 12 plug, which is why I needed to get my unit from Germany. But he was able to supply me some internal electronics for it.

As to cost, the twin plug with blue tooth landed in the US was just under $2800.00

I run a Bluetooth version on a ‘68 E type and it works great. Haven’t used one on a Porsche yet though. Glad to see people giving them a go here.

Gordon, The twin plug is specifically made for a 3.0. Unlike my fitment it is a drop in. You can contact Erik at info@123ignitions.de for details. You can also select a replica (brown) Bosch cap or a Marrelli black cap.

Install complete and test curve seams fine for now.

Hey Chris yes it does have the option for vac advanced. I did not get that running carbs. I believe the 6 plug unit was about $650. I ordered mine from Ed in Ohio. He was very helpful and gave me the numbers to some shops that use them in case there was a problem. But it was just as easy as installing a stock distributor. The plus is the unit is a little smaller and weighs less,for those weight conscious:D.
