Scratched Sunroof

Just opened my sunroof on my 80SC and it scratched it😡 it was kinda off track it seems had to push up on it from the inside to get it to close. Any ideas?

you have to partly open it ..slide away the headliner..to access the cables and brackets.Unzip the back headliner and remove the motor...This way you can then manually slide back the sunroof. You know you have to paint it right?
Also use search button up in corner there is plenty of guide how to go about it..

Hopefully, hopefully... It's just the clearcoat scratched. You can test the paint by putting water on it. If the scrtach dissapears a clearcoat touchup can fix it.

In regard to the sunroff it's self

I think the real issue here is “what scratched it to begin with?”

I think I would start by hand cranking the roof back slowly so I could see what was happening. In lieu of hand cranking you could also remove the motor and slowly slide it. But in any case the cause of the problem needs to be found first.

I have had mine apart and don’t remember anything that would make scratches like that, but obviously there is.

PM me your e-mail and I will send you a write-up I have on sunroof mechanics. It will be via Dropbox; too large for an attachment.

I know there are a lot of sunroof haters out there, but personally I like them. A nice European touch. Weight not an issue unless it’s a track car. You can get part of that elsewhere, for example by removing those useless rear seats!

Would it be easier to just remove the panel to see whats going on? It needs to be painted its a paint to sample Indiana Red Metallic i have found the paint hopefully it will match. Atleast the panel is separated from the rest of the top by the seal . Would a body shop be my best bet for a respray of the panel?

The panel will need to be removed to refinish it. But to do that it will need to be partially opened.

See the shop manual, and I will also send you the link to my PDF tonight.

Whatever you do, do not completely remove the little screws on the back pieces that resemble little interlocking teeth. Removing those screws are not necessary to remove the roof, they are used for adjusting the back of the roofs height. If you do remove them bring a big bag of patients to get them back in. Sorry no pictures of the abominations.
