Need help with my Fuse and Relay Box

I've got one of my relay plug connectors on my 1987 Targa that is torn. The PO had it like you see in the pic. So, I ordered a replacement (also shown) and its is the same connector type, but has more wires than the one on the existing. Additionally, since it was behind the fuse box, I don't know whether it went in F or G but would believe its F, meaning its the Air Cooler Fan. That being said, the wires don't appear to go to any of the fuses, but instead, under and down to a large grouping of wires. I'd prefer to replace this instead of taping it up and fitting it back into the holder.

1.) Anyone recognize if this is the one that belongs in F?
2.) Do you know where it terminates?
3.) The existing only uses 4 terminal / wires but the one I bought (think its only kind I can) has 5 - do I have to use a voltmeter to figure out which wires to use of the 5?
4.) To avoid a lot of unwinding of the harness, can I just split the old and new together?

Trying to find a wiring diagram that can help, but new to this whole thing and its quite confusing on electrical.

TIA

3) It looks like the replacement is a generic relay holder with all 5 wires populated. In the original socket, one pin is not used and is not populated. Therefore on the new socket the corresponding pin and wire are not wired up. With your DMM on OHMS find out which wire is the unused wire and tie it in a knot so you know which one it is. You can cut this wire off later when you verify everything works.

For the other wires, you'll have to figure out which wires are which with your DMM.

4) Likely the wires go right to where they go without a connector. Therefore you'll have to cut each wire and splice/crimp the new wires to the existing wires.

While you're in there.

If your car is not a cab, this will reduce the current burden
on the "lonely" fuse #2 which handles all of the A/C circuitry.

Also, protect the Front A/C condenser fan from fire.

Best,

Gerry

Thanks Gerry - I may do that. Electrical is daunting for me. Other items I am comfortable with... but this may challenge me to give it a go ;-)

Thanks Spoke. This makes sense...Does make me wonder why they don't sell the specific ones anymore.

Give me the wire colors, gauge and length of wire you need and I can cast you a new relay base built to match what you remove.
Or just remove the existing one and send it to me to clone.
PM or email me.

Photo of one I cast for someone.

Thanks. Issue with this one is that the wires go way past the fuse box and I need to figure out how where they go to then see how I would take them off. Will be week or so before I could do that...waiting on wiring color diagram to help me figure out where it goes.

No worries on the time frame.
Best to do it right.
