Sorting another wire mess 77
So I'm going through the wires on my 77 to get ready for this 3.0. There was a previous hack job from a 912E conversion. I was wondering if someone could help me identify some wires I had circled.
The second thing I need answered is if this purple/black (tach wire) should be going into this CDI plug. The T14 wire diagram shows the the purple/black goes into pin 12. Is my 77 supposed to have it coming through this plastic connector since it had originally been a 3 pin Permatune CDI? Can I just pull this out and run it to the T14? Thanks for the help all. 1.? 2.? 3.? 4.? http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/4...d0d78a51_b.jpg |

Thanks Walter!
Now, does anyone know how to rewire that plug so it hooks up to a 3.0? |
From your picture:
1.) This red wire goes to your #5 2.) Brown - I think this is the ground to the case of the CDI 3.) I don't have a yellow with stipe - not sure 4.) Not sure on this one either 5.) This connector goes to the coil. 2 reds and a black. A red and the black goes to the coil, and the other red wire is your #1. |
Thanks Again!
Yeah so it looks like I can get rid of/don't need 1. since that would go to a capacitor. You didn't convert your 75 to a 3.0 did you :) |
2 wires to swap for a 3.0 in a ‘77
The Purple/black in the 3.0 engine harness at T14(12) needs to go to your #5 (T2) along with the red for CDI power. The brown/red currently in the 3.0 harness at T2 needs to go to your #4 brown/black for the air flow safety switch to kill the fuel pump. The rest is for other stuff at the fuse panel. |

Since the harness in my engine bay already needs a new male pin T14 can I just make the adjustment on the car harness instead of the engine? |
You could do it that way.
Extend the tach wire purple/black to reach pin 12 on the 14 pin connector and then move the brown/black wire to T2 with the red for the CDI power and safety switch. |

You got it. :)

Thanks Dennis!
I'm going to assume wires #2 and #3 are not needed? |
