Well, it looks like you spent a lot of time customizing the 66 to your taste, the 88 looks nice but mostly stock. That tells me you should keep the 66.

I would keep the 3.2, without a doubt (but I would definitely put the Carrera tail back on, upgrade the a/c to my frosty standards, and then boost that thing so it would at least have enough turbo powaaahhhh to get out of its own way
![]() The 914/VW Type IV engine doesn't do anything for me (I've owned two 914s in the past), and neither does the starting from scratch, a/c situation (though that could be dealt with, with enough time and money - a huge project, however). The whole engine situation doesn't concern you much, however, as I know you don't need the POWAAAAHHHHH like I do (in cars or tunes!). ![]() |

Which car makes you smile? They are so different it hard to pick. If it was me, I’d pick the car that I drove the most.

![]() I do honestly like your car, however, even as I poke fun at the Fred Flintstone power (I pretty much like all 911s/912s - even the snail mobiles . . . which is most of them!!!)!, and love how you have personalized both of them without a care in world as to what others think ("keep it stock" is even more make-fun-worthy than low power engines!). PS - it kicks much ass that you are feeling good and posting regularly again! ![]() |

I would stay with the 3.2!!!
However, if you keep the 912, swap that 914 motor for a 3.2, thats a good compromise. Cheers, Louie

I'd keep the 3.2. The 6 cylinder sounds so much better than the VW type4. The 912 has a lot more appeal visually and its probably easier to work on, but simply listening to the sound of the 6 while just tooling down some country road is enough for me.

keep the 3,2 the PIA is nicely done but the positive is, you will get at least nice buck for it;-) to make the 3,2 even better;-)
then again it reminds me my dilemma back in LA i had nice 1966-912 with a 5 speed trany in it..in Santa Monica there was no place to park so the problem was keep my 3,2 or the 66 912....i kept the 3,2 but to be honest i miss now the 912 with nice black plates "SRJ 666"....i bought it for 1000 bucks in 1994...oh well i went to Holland for 5K.... Only you can make that decision. You know both cars better than anyone else. I love my '88 which I have had since new and will never sell it. Keep the car that you enjoy the most.

Both are great to drive. If the 3.2 is a "number matching car," meaning the original engine it's def the keeper. Ever if it is a different engine, but the same type as what it came with its gong to be work more than your 912 hotrod moving forward. So a better investment, not that a car should be. I would choose the 3.2 for that reason, and because the driving experience is so similar, with more power and fun factor.......but still not too much that you cannot REALLY enjoy it. Plus A/C in the will always be better (even with the Classic Retrofit Electric A/C, which I LOVE) because it has far better vents etc. It gets hot and sticky in NO, like it does here. Good A/C makes a car FAR more usable year round, even if it is for fun. Plus for long road trips you have cruise control, etc. Thats one reason I take my Anniversary 3.2 on longer trips to places like Tampa (4 hr drive), or North Georgia (6hr drive) over my Rat Rod. Once there the Rat Rod would be a little more fun, but the whole trip the Carrera is far nicer. Even though I have a 3.6 in a '75 (Rat Rod), I can say that there are few things better than rev'ing out my 3.2 Anniversary car up an on ramp and cruising it around. Plenty fast, lots of enjoyment and theater. So I say the 3.2. Just sucks losing your vented rear quarter windows and long hood.

At a glance, the 88 looks like a nice solid car and should be the easier sell. I have one (87) and although I love it, the dented, modded, non-AC 85 that I've made "mine" is the one I will keep.
If you need AC, take an Uber! That is, if you CAN"T keep them both. The 88 is still an appreciating collectible, so as long as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to store and insure, you could justify keeping it.
