What the heck is in Pine-Sol ?!?

I was looking to de-gunk my seat rails when I stumbled on some Pine-Sol and a short length of PVC pipe. I glued a cap on one end of the PVC, put the rails in and put enough Pine-Sol in to cover the rails. I plugged the open end with a rubber plug that you tighten until it snugs inside the wall of the pipe.

A few hours later, the plug had blown out and the pipe was overflowing with foam.

The rails are clean as a whistle.

All of which led me to wonder - what the heck is in Pine-Sol ?

What other automotive uses does it have?

Not sure. But your car may smell like every elementary school bathroom ca. 1970s and 1980s.

I have used Pine Sol for years as a degreaser. I keep a sealable tub handy and just drop stuff in for a day or two. It takes away a lot of scrubbing.

Be careful what you use it on though. Many, and I mean many, years ago I disassembled the Amal
carb on my Bultaco Pursang and put it in a bucket of Pine-Sol. It started to EAT the metal. I extracted
it right away. Promptly followed by a rinse, baking soda, and another rinse. I had heard other guys
talk about using it with success, but not for me. As I said, be careful what you use it on.

I've soaked stainless steel, steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, and magnesium in Pine Sol and have never seen any evidence of etching or attack. I wonder what that carb was made from?

LOL!

After a thorough rinsing with water, I gave them a generous spray of WD-40.

Trade one funky smell for another!

Used to work with a guy that restored classic cars. He swore toilet bowl cleaner was the best way to remove stains and light rust.

My house in the 60's and 70's....thank you Mom. Every time I smell Pine-Sol I think of you......

I make our cleaning lady at the office use it.....My sister feels the same way as I do about the smell.

Memories! I had a 250 Alpina, I can still remember dumping gas all over the place when using the Amal "cold start" mechanism..

Definitely brought back memories. Had a 250 Pursang, then a 400 Maico back in the early 70’s.

I didn't realize we had so many Bultaco fans. I have a 1967 Metralla MKll project I want to sell if anybody is interested.

My last one, 250 Matador for Enduros. If they still made parts I would love to have a 125-250 Alpina here..

Bultaco and Hodaka's bring back great memories of the 70's.
