What is this alternator piece?

This fiberglass piece sits in front of the alternator on my '69E, and my '74 Carrera. As you can see, the fiberglass has broken from the bolts holes making it difficult to secure. What is it and are they available? If not I was thinking of gluing some washer on both side to make it a bit more robust. Comments? Thanx as always. steve

Alternator air guide is one term for it - or cooling fan housing extension. I found this part number but not sure of fitment for your model year(s.) It would be best to call Pelican to confirm.

The washer gluing idea will work just fine, and JB Weld sticks perfectly, and long term, to whatever type of plastic the cone is made of (as I know from experience).

I would find some hard nylon washers that I could scuff the washer and the air guide so that some epoxy glue would hold things together. Reason I say this, is that a large metal washer that would do the trick gets you really close to shorting things out with the electrical connections. Been there, done that.

If the air vanes are loose you can just drill out the rivets and replace with new rivets.

Steve. You need to keep it and as noted above, as long as you can safely attach it to you alternator and have it mostly intact it will do ok.

My car had a missing vane on it for years until I was able to source a decently priced replacement. Did not notice much of a difference, if any in oil temperature.

Looks like a missing chunk at the upper left corner.

It's fiberglass, you can patch it.

I’d also recommend a nylon washer and an epoxy. I think this piece is a SMC plastic, so fiberglass patch may not work. There’s no great pressure on this air guide, just engine vibrations and the cooling air being diverted.
