How important is the 2nd C clip - helper spring shaft

So I got this transmission with the bottom clutch lever and spring disconnected. I am freshening up the clips and noticed the bottom dust cap didn't need to be removed. The shaft and helper spring just slid out. Looking closely at where the shaft enters the arm I can see the shaft tip has been chipped away. How critical is this? Do I need to drop $30 on a new shaft and press it into the helper spring or run it as is?

I just realized a few weeks ago that there was a second clip as I was reinstalling my eng/trans. I know my car has NOT had one for the last ten years/15k miles. I ordered a replacement, but realized the clip I purchased was an internal clip, so I still don't have one because I didn't want to wait to reinstall.

The pin on my car is pressed into the arm, but I have seen diagrams where there are clips at both ends. If mine had clips, I would have replaced them. The orientation on the car is the same as your photo - spring above. The spring would need to work it's way up and over the the pin to free itself, I'm not sure there is adequate clearance to do that.

Make your own decision and others may have different opinions, but I didn't bother.

Thanks Greg I will go with that. I too don't believe the clearance exists for it to pop up and out.
