tool kit question
The fan pulley wrench in my 1979 SC tool kit is for a 22mm nut. But my car has a 24mm nut. Any idea what's happening here? Purchased car in 1988 with 22K miles and very original right down to the tool kit plastic bag and gloves. Where can I find the proper one?
And is there a process to remove the corrosion from the tools and get them back to semi-original condition? Probably shouldn't store them in the plastic bag. Thanks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1559570250.jpg |
your 911 came with older type alternator with an external regulator. Those had different shaft(smaller) so it was 22 nut size. Later model of alternator with internal regulator has 24 size nut...so your alternator has been changed..that is all..

Wire wheel to remove corrosion then paint with clear high temperature lacquer. Bake if you desire a permanent finish.

Thanks to both of you. Perfect explanation for alternator....just wish my "records since new" identified when it was changed. And the wire wheel action, high temp paint and oven bake are on my agenda
Now who's the good source for the proper 24mm tool kit wrench? 911 ownership has always been a blast for me and this forum puts all the best info and resources at your fingertips. Huge improvement over the old days, when you bothered your mechanic weekly, attempted a fix, then took it too him anyway |
