Fiberglass bumper options for 74-77 911

There are a few threads out there, but they're all a few years old from what I'm seeing.

For those with narrowbody 74-77 911s, what have you done for fiberglass front a rear bumpers?

The front is the same as a normal SC, so any non turbo IROC or SCRS front should fit. I believe TRE made a rear 'glass end for narrowbody midyear. It's low demand, so not sure if they have any.

Here's the rear painted on a n/b middie:

And here's a raw IROC 'glass front on a midyear with SC flares. The front fenders are the same as your midyear.

The SCRS front looks even better on a midyear as it doesn't have the front cooler opening. Do you have a front cooler?

In my opinion, an IROC front doesn't look great on a n/b middie because it should have a front mounted cooler. If it has a front mounted center cooler, it should look more like an actual IROC car, and in that case it should probably have flares.

It's sort of the battle that many middie owners face: Do I flare? I still want to lighten the car and maybe I don't like the bellows...

Here's the IROC done right on a middie with SC flares. The flares are a must imho. Notice you have to delete the rockers as well. IROC front with rockers looks sort of odd to me. Of course everyone breaks all of these rules. Just saying what the conventions are.

Here's my car. I opted to keep the impact
bumpers but try to lighten everything.

Euro crush tubes all around and lighten the rear bumper with mods.

Yeah, that's where I'm at, myself. I want to keep the narrowbody, because that's what it is. At this stage, it would be just as easy to convert to a long hood rsr as to restore the parts I have. But, well, I just have a problem with doing that. It would be like my wife trying to make me dress like her ex-boyfriend. Doesnt feel right.

Fiberglass bumpers on the other hand allow me to remove those heavy bumper shocks and reduce bumper weight. Plus avoid replacing the some missing bellows.

I dont currently have a front center cooler. However. the bumpers and fenders are off, and it has the old trombone cooler. So, I'm open to putting in a center oil cooler.

You forgot about the RUF bumpers, which I think look better than the options above:

Imho the IROC / RS bumpers look super dorky with that giant rectangle hanging out in front. There are no other rectangles on the car, just looks super hacked because it WAS hacked. Racecars are hacked. If it's a track slut, fine, but if it's a street car I think it should be more refined and integrated like the RUF bumper.

Agree with you 100%. Narrow midyears are getting like hen's teeth. They only made a few thousand each year and many have been flared out. Of the cars for sale that are midyears I see, it seems like 80% have been flared.

Euro crush tubes are an option if you want to keep the IB look. MUCH lighter.

The bellows are cheap, especially compared to fitting and painting a glass bumper.

I think the SCRS bumper looks like this:

I do like your 911, Duane. Seems more like an outlaw, but retains the characteristic bits of the mid-year. My stock bumpers need to be repaired and painted, otherwise, I wouldn't be considering fiberglass. As far as work, it seems like an even tradeoff.

Addvanced, I can appreciate the RUF bumpers. Actually did my (late) SC with these. But for me, it seems like either the IROC style with center cooler, or stock with euro tubes is attractive for the narrowbody.

I’ve got a 76 912 that I’m making a custom carbon fiber bumper for.

I originally picked up an IROC bumper, and hated the lines of it, looked really cheesy with the giant square opening, so I sold it.

I’m making a custom bumper cover that’s mostly based of the General shape of the 964, but more rounded bottom end to give it more of a period correct look. Also integrating some styling queues from the 550 spider and Ferrari Dino.

Yup, I need to hide a radiator under that bumper , radiator, not oil cooler.
