Intake Port Spacing on 3.0, 3.2, and 3.6
Are the intake manifold ports spaced the same on each of these engines?

3.0s and 3.2s are. In fact, they are the same as the 2.0, 2.2, 2.4, and 2.7. I've not had a 3.6 apart, but I'd be very surprised if the port centerline was different. All the air cooled cases are the same length, and the cylinder centerlines are all the same spacing. Spigot widths and stud spacing, that's a different matter.

all the cylinders are 118mm OC w/ 59mm stagger the stud spacing changed several times through 2.7 it was 80mm OC 3.0 & 3.2 is 86mm OC, though the very first 3.9 RSR was 83mm, 3.6 & 3.8 is 90mm OC |
3.6’s have the 3 bolt intakes though.

Right, but those are easily enough adapted.
Here's a question, though: The engine/transmission mounting dimensions are the same on the air cooled 911s as they are on the 356s and the air cooled VWs going way back. You could bolt up an 1100cc VW transmission to a 3.8 993 engine and vice versa (might have to do minor modifications for ancillary systems, but the bolt/stud locations are the same). Is this still true for the water cooled 911s, Boxsters, and Caymans? I have some reason to believe you can't bolt a PDK up to a 3.0 SC engine (leaving aside of how you would manage the PDK). But I am curious. |
PDK's came just after my time, but I did do some training on them. AFAIK, the bolt patterns were all the M96 style borrowed from the Audi's.

Dan - I deduce from your experience that the M96 and later engines have a transmission bolt pattern which is different from the G50 and all the previous Porsche patterns?

It's a Mercedes tranny that can be built to support way more power than most of the manual transmissions. Keeping it cool might be a small challenge on the track. |
