newer wiper blades on old wiper arms?

I recently tried to replace the wiper blades on my 86 Carrera and ran into some problems.

I tried two models of Bosch beam type blades and neither would fit with any of the included inserts (the plastic piece that adapts to various arms). They were all too big for the hook at the end of the wiper arm. They were meant to work with an arm that was both wider and had a bigger hook diameter.

Next, I tried a set of PIAA silicone blades with the traditional style frame. Again, none of the included inserts would work. They were all too big. I was replacing traditional Bosch style blades so I took the inserts that were in those. They snapped into the PIAA blades, but the center pin on the PIAAs was larger and this meant the blades wouldn't quite snap properly into the arms. I ended up having to shave away a bit of plastic on those inserts to make them work.

My question is, has anyone had the same problem? Are there newer arms that will work with modern wiper blades? I'd be willing to buy them (maybe from a 993) if necessary.

On the upside, the PIAA silicone blades are pretty sweet.

Did you buy them from our host or a P-car supplier?

The Bosch beam types (Clear Advantage) came from our host. The PIAAs from Amazon.

I just bought some from PP. They snapped right on and work great. There are a couple of options but look at the reviews to see which ones to get.

Interesting. I just replaced mine with Bosch and required no adapters; straight out of the package and onto the hook. '88 cab

ran into this problem a few years ago -- resolved successfully by reusing the adapters/fittings that were on my old wiper blades

i get the Bosch 40-713 13" blades from Worldpac. They come with the new style clips that don't clip right, so I use the ones from the old blades, if they have them. What number 13" Bosch blades have the proper clips?
