Help, Did A Bunch Of Work, Car Not Won't Run!!!

I just completed a bunch of work. I have a 72 2.4 T MFI 911.

I removed the alternator and a bunch of sheet metal to clean out on top of the cylinders and to get my fan powder coated. I also took off the cold start induction on on the left side of the engine to get to the sheet metal piece more easily.

I put everything back together and at first it started. The car ran fine for a few minutes. I reved up the engine fairly high, and it just died. It wont start.

I can hear the whine of the fuel pump.

The starter cranks.

Everything sounds the same but it just wont start.

I also took off the cold start induction on on the left side of the engine to get to the sheet metal piece more easily.

Any thoughts???

Thanks.

Make sure that you didn't partially seperate the 14 pin connector (I think you have one of those) on the rear fuse panel. Are you getting spark (hold one of the spark plug leads with insulated plyers near it socket in the distributor). Then test the coil lead.

You probably know all of this stuff, but I always check for spark then fuel if a car turns over but doesn't run.

Let us know.

Cold start induction? Are you talking about the pre-heat hose that comes from the left heat exchanger and goes up through the sheet metal and attaches to the MFI pump? If so, that's not your problem.

Per Marc's suggestion I would look for something electrical that got knocked loose. Check all your wiring to and from the distributor. Does the CDI have a high-pitched whine when the ignition is in the on position? If not then check the connections to it.

With regards to the "cold start induction", I think Ian is referring to the switch that sits on top of the fuel filter that sends raw fuel directly to the stacks on MFI cars for cold start assistance.

Ian, you mention twice that you removed the "cold start induction", but you don't say whether you put it back. Did you remember to put the wire back under the screw on top? That switch is electrically operated and needs power in order to send fuel to the stacks.
