				Are these H1's???

I have a burnt out bulb. The instructions on replacing it in the owners manual don't look anything like what I have to do to change these, I assume they have been upgraded by the previous owner. They say "E1" on the face, but when I opened them up I think it says H1 (hard to tell). Are these H1's? I want to make sure I order the correct bulb. Also, it doesn't appear that the bulb circut is out, but it is not working so I assume changing the buld is the best first thing to try. Any comments would be appreciated.

Bingo...H-1's...nice to have found a treasure you didn't know you had, right? Remove the entire light assembly to change bulbs (two bulbs in each light) from the backside.

Exactly...Its kind of funny, when people talk about the headlights not working very good and wanting to upgrade, I have thought, hmm, I don't think mine are that bad. I guess now I know why. Thanks,

Hopefully you have relays installed ... four of them, preferrably! If not, do a search on"headlight relays" in the Pelican 911 archives ... J. C. Whitney has 130 Watt H1 bulbs ... though Wayne and the guys can probably get the Hella 78130 [130 Watt] bulbs, too! Let there be LIGHT!!!

a quick glance way to tell...h1 lenses are clear on top, h4 lenses have ridges...BTW, were these before & after paint pics? Red ring in one, black in the other?

Just looked the bulbs offered at PP...55w and 100w. I assume that I should go with the 100w and replace both. They are for the "low beams". Is the 130w also for the low beams? If so, I guess those would be that much better.

go with the 55...unless you use relays for the higher wattage bulbs, you'll burn out your high/low beam switch...There have been previous threads on this...but believe me, higher wattage demands rewiring, and relays...being sort of an originality phreak, I'm using the 55's in my h-1's, lighting is still good.

The red rings cover the black ones. There is one screw that secures the red rings to the black rings located at the bottom. It is a phillips screw that screws into the flat head screw that holds the black ring in place. The black ring has the adjustment screws on it. I don't have any idea about he relays, so for now I think I will go with the 55w. I will have to do some research on the relays. Thanks for the tips.

Four relays, four 20 Amp aircraft circuit breakers, 12 AWG and 10 AWG wiring [12 ga 'hot' leads, and 10 ga ground lead] ... 130 Watt high and low beams work great around town, on the highway, flashing the blue-beam ricers, etc. ... Four Hella Rallye 4000 'Euro' beams with 130 Watt bulbs ... one of these days on the hood ...

There is no blood in Warren's system. Arteries contain red wire, veins contain blue...or is it the other way around?

Mark, Should be late in the year ... we're combining households right now, but the new wife wants to see 'Annie' running, and run some rallyes, too! The wife will get a set of keys, too, and loves 5-speeds with the 915 shift pattern!

That's very cool. I hope to get through San Angelo to shake your hand before my move to PNW. Maybe I can swing by on the trip.

Warren, we blew it here...fig911? Those h1 headlamps shouldn't be used on 1980's cars, since they were designed for earlier models. I might be interested in them as spares for my old 911. I'm probably being too generous, but I'll give you $100 for the pair, if you'll pay shipping. That should help you buy a set of h4's... Always glad to help a guy out!

My GOD! Early_S_Man, These things will melt any ice on the road and maybe dry it before the tires hit the spot where the ice was! Does the mileage decrease when you have these on? Keith
