oem vs factory fixed rear 1/4 window seal
 

I'm having no luck installing the rear quarter window into the body. I bought the oem seal instead of the factory seal.
1. Has anyone installed the oem seal with success?
2. Do you start at the back and work your way towards the front, or the front and work your way back.
3. Silicone spray or liquid soap as a lubricant.
4. String, or just work the lip over the edge.
I tried using the string and ripped the seal. A friend suggested the oem seal was the problem, and should switch to the factory seal.

OEM and factory seals are the same thing so not sure what you mean, but the OEM seal will work WAY better than an aftermarket seal. You will have to use a rope/string and start in the bottom or top middle and work towrads the front. Its best if you have someone pushing inwards hard on the bottom and top front corners while you are pulling the rope from the inside so you can make those right angle corners without ripping the seal. You can do it by yourself but the angle you have to put your body in to push in from the out side and be on the inside makes you pull the string in a less desirable direction if that makes sense

In the Pelican parts section they list 3 seals, Porsche,oem,aftermarket. I went with oem. I’ll give it another try.

I've done a 1950 Ford rear window and split front windshield, and a 356 rear quarter window. It took a lot of pressure in the right direction from someone pushing hard while I pulled the string. We also used a tile suction cup from Lowes on the glass to give a little more grip. A lot of soapy water was used, and the string diameter was important too. It was not easy, and took more than one attempt.

I was wondering about the string diameter and type.

Can someone post parts numbers for the OEM rear quarter window seals?

We used thick wire, maybe 14 gauge, and lots of soap. Started with the flat part of the seal that faces the front of the car. There is a channel on the car where the seal needs to fit in. Make sure the trim is installed before you place the seal in the car. I pushed on the glass as my buddy "roped" it in. No problems but we used genuine Porsche seals.

I am currently doing this for the passenger side window and it is a PITA! I am on my fourth attempt(with the help of my wife). At this point, I am going to have both ends of the string in the middle of the flat facing door channel and work my way around.

I tried starting from the flat part facing the front, but the window kept sliding back. Tried from the back and window kept sliding forward. The first response suggests starting at the middle top or bottom. will try that next.
