Name that part

I removed the engine from my car this winter to do some maintenance and cleaning. It's an '84 Carrera. I have no idea where this goes. Any ideas?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1560995730.jpg

No idea, really.

Now that there's a picture, auto heat sensor on left heat exchanger.

The part doesn't look terribly important to me. I'd just leave it out.

Isn't that the holder for the auto heat sensor?

It definitely looks like a temperature sensor. Where does it go?

I didn't recognize the wire/plug. My "heat exchanger temperature sensor" works when the cabin goes from teeth rattle cold to insufferably hot in about 20 seconds. Then I adjust the lever.

The heaters in an air cooled 911 is amazing, especially for a30+ year old car. Last November we did a fall foliage tour in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It got down to 16 degrees one night. We stayed at a hotel just at one mile away from the main convention hotel. In that one mile the cabin was getting toasty warm buy the time we got there at 35 MPH with no stops.
