The New GT3- Back to Basics?

The current issue of AutoWeek (3-24) has an article on the 2004 GT3.

Even though the P-truck ("Pure Porsche in an unexpected form........." oh shut the hell up  ) has been garnering all the headlines, apparently some folks at the shop are still concerned about getting 'round the track in a NA lightweight car that doesn't cost the national debt.

Here is the present day version of the RS America, 73 RS, ClubSport,......... whatever you want to call it.

O.K., so it's not air cooled. It's still one wickedly fast machine.

A svelte 3043 lbs. (that's pretty svelte for a 996 road car- throw another $8K at it and you can drop a whopping 37 more lbs. with PCCB brakes ;) ), 190 mph top end, 8200 rpm redline, 381 hp/281lb-ft 3.6L motor. All for only $99,900! Ouch.

It sure is a very very nice machine. It's almost a bargain compare to GT2. But for half of the price, I get a Lotus Elise (or Elise Sport) instead. ;)

Uh...Kev. You kinda scrubbed out the wrong lines in that first picture.

Now I know where you live. How's IL this time of year? Prolly the same as Ohio...:)

Yes, the GT3 looks like a fantastic car. Hope Porsche keeps it up. Somehow, these cars look far more enticing than the stock 996.

I agree. The 996 GT3 is the most "911" of the 996s. I'd love to take one for spin around the block.... or a few 100 miles more :)

A Man's Porsche ....................... But it would never need any work. So it wouldn't be as much fun. LOL.

Maybe I can afford the GT3 in 15 years. Sat in the Elise last weekend at the car show. Awesome toy. Wonder how much over the $38k sticker you will have to pay.

Charles check out the 99 lotus. About the third car down. $46,9

Since this isn't the Lotus page my final comment is: $46.9 for a 99 track car. I was figuring aroung $50k to get into a new street car.

Since my 60th birthday is coming up all too soon, I'm willing to wait 30 years...to see if the GT3 is as revered as the '73RS is today. ;)

Heh. I knew someone would comment on that Mark. I don't care if people know where I live. It's in the phone book!!! :D I don't want somebody messing with my subscription. :p

IL was pretty darn good today. Mid 60's allowed me some more yard work and some paint prep work on the 911.

Yep. We could have much more fun elsewhere with the $100K. Still, it's nice to see Porsche staying true to form.
