Option 395
I’m looking to put new tyres on my 77 Carrera 3.o, and I note that the Porsche approved tyre list suggests 205/50 R15 and 225/50 R15 for 7 & 8 inch rims respectively.
My local classic car tyre supplier (who deal in Pirelli classic, Michelin classic etc) has recommended 185/70 R15 and 215/60 R15, which are the original spec tyre sizes. After doing a bit of research, one of my old option pamphlets details Option 395, which is the 50 profile tyre setup. My questions from here are: 1 - based on actual experience with these tyre sizes, is the ride much different between the two? Yeah I get that it’ll be stiffer etc but I’d like some actual observations, not just theoretical advice. 2 - Out of the factory, did Option 395 cars get a modified speedo, given the different rolling diameters between the standard and option 395 sets. Thanks! |

There is a .3” difference between the two. With about a 1% difference I suspect they did nothing to the speedo. And from the spec book just to add to the body of knowledge.
