There is enough meat on the shift platform where you can utilize a velcro system that attaches a custom leather boot to the shift platform. If you need extra attachement points, build a simple 90* piece of steel that installs under the platform and sticks out.
Easier to visualize than to explain, but it will work. Or you know, run it with a WEVO ssk like the rest of us, and if anyone asks, it's a race car. |
An Idea.....
Here are some images from my 1981 911sc....work was done by previous owner but I thought really tastefully done and how I would want it. Since I had a 1967 912 prior I love this more simple look and space for my legs.....http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1561663255.jpg

Do a google search. There must be hundreds of shift boot designs. One might fit your rectangular base.

I removed the console in my '84. The holes in the carpet where the screws held the console down are driving me nuts. I'm thinking of fab ing a fire extinguisher mount to utilize / cover the holes in the carpet.

Hi...has anyone that has deleted the console had power locks and the button on the console? I really like this minimalist look, but want to maintain the functions of the hazards, defroster and power locks...I’m willing to eliminate the AC buttons and hide the assoc. wiring...going through an AC delete. Please let me know.

Damn CSI work right there.

But is it too plain?
So... when I was installing a set of shift bushings on my SC a few weeks back, I had to take the center console out. When it was out, I found myself drawn to the esthetic of the openness. But then I realized why. It reminded me of the 1960s VW’s. Which is what I grew up with. I think the center counsel makes it look more like a Porsche than an old VW. Just my opinion of course.

Interior mods
w
hen I replaced the interior of my 1980 SC coupe, I removed the console, added a rubber boot with a chrome retaining plate and then removed the ash tray and made a panel for the ac controls. Here's a picture. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1597541163.jpg |
did the same as PCHIP...real clean look with new carpeting, polished the shifter upper plate to add bling, converted to Siene shifter. My carpet in also held in by snaps (black to hide in black carpet) across the tunnel so easy to remove is access needed to anything

Surf the web, google images then use your imagination. Carbon fiber, sheet metal, wood, aluminum, 3d printing choices are endless. It would be easy to make a transition from square to round so the rubber boot fits properly if that’s what your looking for.
