Deleted center console, any ideas

1988 3.2 Carrera coupe, I deleted my center console. Wondering what others have done to cover the shift mechanism. I have the rubber boot but what about the rest. I found one guy that fabricated a metal cover but nothing else?

I went through this process as well. Relocated the switches to the dash and under the dash and installed new carpet. I did in fact install the Wevo shifter and love it! I like the raw look without a shifter boot, but that is a personal choice. You can check out more here:

Nice upgrades with the shift knob, cup holder, tweed carpet and of course the wevo.

What do you guys have against center consoles? I love mine. Holds sunglasses, wallet, and sometimes I prop my phone in it for nav. Would definitely never remove mine.

Removed mine, I keep my sunglasses between the seats and that's all I carry. The look is much cleaner.

Would love to get rid of mine, but haven't (yet) seen an acceptable way to relocate the AC controls and I'm keeping my factory (86 targa) ac intact

The 88 center console doesnt hold anything....it just takes up space. Do you have a later year that has an actual box with a lid between the seats?

Don’t have any great photos, but I am happy with my relocated AC controls under the ashtray.

I purchased a section of aluminum angle from Home Depot and mounted it under the ash tray, drilled 2 holes for the controls and done. The control wires are just long enough to make it.

It also shifts really effing great!! I think their G50 shifter is my single favourite mod I've done to the car. It's something one utilizes constantly and the benefits are ever present. The shifting can be improved, even on a G50 car. I can't imagine the improvemwnt for a 915.

Plus, it looks cool. Well, it would if I had it exposed, but the factory shift boot covers it and still looks unmodified. I wonder if the rubber accordion type boot would fit over the G50 WEVO mechanism to keep a stockish appearance if the console was eliminated. Probably not with the big base plate there to cover up...

I deleted my a/c so I only had to deal with the 4 way flasher and rear window defroster. Radio delete solved that and had space for a voltmeter but I still have the hole where the shifter is. BTW the car isn't running. That is why only a little over 12 volts.

Into the shifter. That is where everything I dropped would fall if I had that setup and especially so if the dropped item was of value.

Agree with this. And all a matter of personal preference, but to me the rubber boot always has been such a defining element of the classic Porsche interior.

I deleted the radio and moved the a/c controls there. I like the rubber boot but the available leather boot covers the shifter more completely.
