Timing Chain Covers as a Muffler Mount?

Help I'm an idiot!

Have always used the timing chain cover as a mount for these old Phase 9 cans. This time I forgot to screw the bolts all the way tight before going on a drive. Lots of oil made it past the seal. I've since tightened the bolts but oil is still flowing through.

My question, now that the seals have been drenched in oil an I hosed? Do I need to remove the covers and reseal? Arghhh.

I think I figured out my issue. I didn't get this one bolt tight, rubber seal wasn't pressed in.

I think there is too much vibration from the headers and mufflers to use the timing chain cover... I use the two bolts you see at the bottom of the engine mount. You can weld a tab to your cross bar and then just bolt to those lower two studs.... cleaner look too.

I’d agree on the timing chain cover bolts not being the best choice for muffler bracket attachments. You did use two per side, which helps distribute the load. I see you also have a cross bar, which should take most of the load. Do you need the chain box mounts too?

Nice looking rear on the car, by the way!

6 to 8 ft lbs torque for those magnesium cam chain cover nuts.
The two lower studs on the motor mount is where a fabbed support is usually center mounted, arms then extend to extractors or muffler. Strap clamps hold them.

When the housings break from the load, your wallet will gently weep.

Just a quick thanks for your input. Used a spreader bar in the end. Slick little setup. I can swap from my M & K to the Phase 9's for the track in under an hour (which is good for me
