Seat Leather Care

I recently obtained some leather replacement seats for my SC. I kept only one seat bottom from my original seats because the other original seats were seriously worn and torn. I used the replacement seats for two seat backs and one seat bottom.
I just paid a really good leather guy to dye the seats and they really look sharp.

I have two questions about leather seat care:
1) Can you put stuff like mink oil on it (or some other leather oil) to preserve it, or does that make it worse? (Remember the seats have been dyed.)
2) I will expose the leather seats when I want to show off a little bit, but when driving by myself, I'd like to cover the leather with something cheap that I can remove easily. Any suggestions? And - Will this keep the leather from getting beat up?

Thanks!!
- Bill

Bill--
I like Lexol. You might also ask your leather guy - he probably knows a thing or two that have worked for him.

Leatherique has a preservative and a cleaner, I highly recommend them both, I use them on my 83SC.

I use lexol. Put on a healthy coat, then slip some polyethene bags over the seats to prevent evaporation. Let sit for a couple hours, then clean up the excess.

Do this every 6 mos or so and they will stay soft. No need to hide them under slip covers (unless they are exposed to a lot of UV).

If you do a search on the site you will find tons of information and opinions on what to use. As for me, my PO neglected my seats, but after one application of Lexol (cleaner then conditioner), I could tell an immediate difference.

In order of preference:

Leatherique, Autoglym, Hide Food

And I love my leather! Some guys like Lexol, it's fine I suppose but I don't have great results with it...

I just used their leather preservative and four days later my lightly cracked seats had a lovely soft feel

Bill,

What did you do with the other two old seat backs? If you still have them and the foan is in good shape I might want to get them from you. What style seats are they?

I have two original 1982 SC seats. The passenger seat back is in good condition, the bottom is beat up.
The driver side seat is really pretty well beat up. You can have both if you want.

Are they the standard seats or sport seats? The seat backs are what I'm looking for as my are in real bad shape in the backs but the bottoms are ok. I'm looking for the sport seat style as that's what I have and they won't fit if they aren't the same.
