Permanant Steel 911R tail lights

As I start the metal work on my '74 widebody, I'm thinking of the 911R tail lights. I know there are people who feel that permanent modifications hurt value, but this is a theft recovery salvage title from long ago. I'm building this for me and have no plans for resale. Has anyone (other than Magnus Walker) done permanent ones? I have a new TIG welder I'm practicing with for quite a while before I touch the car with it (to fix the fenders). I couldn't find anything in search but thought I'd throw it out there. Might be a fun first project.

Also - someone that has the fiberglass ones - any chance you can measure the circumference of the hole around one of the lights for my reference?

Thanks,

Scott

I have seen posts by people other than Magnus do this but can’t point you to them. IMO it provides a much more finished, less tacked-on, appearance. Go for it!

Both of those look great. Mine will just have a reflector delete between them.

I also fell in love with the clean look and blanked off the front as well.
The recess on my fiberglass housings is 75mm Dia. , the Hella lenses measure 74mm Dia.

Another shot of the steel R tail lights on my backdate hot rod. I didn't want to deal with molding fiberglass to steel and the subsequent risk of future cracking. So Marc, his body guy, and I all agreed steel would be the best way to get the smooth molded look I was set on. I'm thrilled with the results.

The factory used fiberglass.

Who wants to BUTCHER the car with steel crap back there.

Looks terrible.

And if MAGNUS did it I certainly don't want to have anything to do with it!!!

END OF RANT!!!

Hey Dick, come on, tell us how you really feel. Don’t hold back now.
Did Marcus sleep with your wife or something, or did you just jump on the ‘we hate Magnus’ train for no reason?

All steel tail lights look great.
Not for my car, but a cool mod nonetheless.

I'm all about changing things on my car, but those tail lights are something I just don't get. Ex. You have that really cool car pictured above with a hotrod/aggressive look, then you see those itty bitty round lights which to me ruins the rear end. Then if you picture an early year from the side with stock front turn signal lenses, they match the rear turn signals. The round ones, nope.

IMHO, needs a character line that surrounds the lens grouping depression that aligns with the trunk lid edge across the back as in the first photo. YMMV as it's your car.

Sherwood, I was thinking that was what I was going to go for. I guess I need to ahead and find a decklid.
