1982 SC Hirschmann Antenna not Working
Hi Everyone,
My friends 1982 911SC (used to be mine) is having issues with his power antenna. It is the original Hirschamann power antenna. It just stopped working. What are our options here? I see there are some options for new ones on Pelican, are they good? Or junk? Can the Antenna be repaired? Anything we should be looking at to trouble shoot? Thanks for your help, Rodney

Did you check the fuse?

We checked the fuse box but did not see anything blown there. Is there an inline fuse not located in the fuse box?

You may want to remove the cover and take a quick look inside to see if there is an obvious issue with the wiring, and you can also check if the relay is working. You will probably find some dirt in there that needs needs to be cleaned out, and it's a good opportunity to lubricate the various moving parts.
I don't know if the same antenna was used in '82, but this is what the Hirschmann from my '77 looks like inside (aluminum enclosure).

They will gum up as mentioned, and often the plastic wand will break, so open, clean, inspect, and possibly remove and wind in a new wand. Not hard to rework if you are inclined, but new whole units are out there as well and not very expensive at all.

Yes there is an in-line fuse....it should be under the left side dash...closer to the headlight switch(because it plugs in there). It’s a black spring loaded fuse holder.

There are YouTube videos showing how to service them if needed. I replaced mine when I bought a car with a non functioning antenna.
