Porsche Crest The 911 SC Blues Please help!

I have a 1980 911 SC that I purchased several months ago. The first gear synchro was shot but I drove it anyway for a few weeks but the 1st gear went out compltely and it would jump out of second after a few days and then third went to hell. Anyway this all happened in a couple days on the way to and from work so I parked the car. My 911 sat for 2 months without being cranked but today I thought I would fire it up to move it in the garage to start removal of the tranny. When I cranked it up it started BILLOWING white blue oil smoke and refuses to quit! It ran perfect before being parked but know could be used to provide smoke cover for our troops in Iraq. What has happened? It still runs good but it smokes like nothing you can imagine it fogged my entire neighborhood in just a minute. Anyone have any idea as to what could have caused this or what could have gone wrong just sitting? It is apparent there is a lot of oil in the cylinder area but how did it get there? Valve seals? Rings? Why after it sat? For those of you who know this car, it used to belong to Ben Willis the MegaSquirt conversion genuis (Very nice guy who did a great job restoring the body of this machine). Can anyone tell me anything about what might have happened to my wonderfull car?

Maybe oil seeped past the rings while it was parked for 2 months. (??)

It's not overfull of oil, is it?

No its not

No it is not overfull of oil I am positive. I always check the oil on level ground at regular running temprature with the car cranked. I used to work as a Porsche apprentice mechanic in my youth (Along time ago) so the basics I have covered. Thanks for the replys I am wondering if I take it for a long hard drive if it will clear up? Ill probably get arrested!

"....it started BILLOWING white blue oil smoke and refuses to quit!...

How long did you run it?
It's either going to stop smoking or blow up!
I'm thinking there is a lot of oil in the crankcase, and the scavenge pump is not sucking it up.

Other than that, try whispering some sweet, comforting words to her.
SC's are very sensitive, ya know.

Not long

I havent run it for long as it scares me. I guess I have run it for about 10 minutes total so far. Funny thing is when I first crank it up for 5 seconds it doesnt smoke then poof it starts billowing. Could be it takes that long to get hot enough to burn the oil. What do you think guys should I sneak it onto the road at night and run it for awhile?

Was it parked on an incline, butt downhill? Mine did that once, though not as bad after I had parked in a friends very steep driveway.

My guess would be water settling to the bottom of the gas tank after sitting undesturbed for two months. Try draining the gas and adding some new.

WAG?

I have over the years had the car sit for several weeks up to 2 months due to buisness travel. Every time I would start it up after a long shutdown it would smoke like crazy. Drive the car for about 10 minutes and it will disapate and stop. The engine is an opposing 6 so the cylinders are laying on there side allowing oil to seep past the rings from the dry sump. If it is still blowing smoke after 20~30 minutes then you might have a problem.

if you haven't done so already, cheack the air box for oil. Sometimes for various reasons it wil lget oil in it and smoke like nobody's business. If the airbox isn't oily then you've nailed it down to the engine/pistons/rings/etc.

I agree with the rest...mine was parked for 3 months during my tour in Saudi...let it run, drove it, now is just fine.

HURRAY!

I just took it out for a night time drive and it cleared up after about 3 miles and 110mph run up. YEEEEE HAAAAAAA. Thanks to everyone I was panic stricken as I already have to rebuild the tranny the expense of an engine overhaul was a scary prospect at the moment. THANKS I am one happy camper.
