A/C Compressor Bracket
I am putting the A/C back into my SC. But, I am stumped as to how the original bracket mounts to the engine.
Anyone have a picture of the factory installation they can post? I just can't remember how this was, nor can I figure it out. :o |
I won’t be able to get to mine until later tonight. I have removed the compressor and am removing the bracket. The bracket attaches below the tin, if I recall. Probably easier accessed from below.

I am still looking for the actual mounting of the SC bracket to the engine. I can find lots of pictures of the top of the bracket with the compressor, but none of the actual bracket bolted to the engine. Contrary to advice previously given, the search terms do not produce useful results.

^^^^^ From the PET. Other members might be of further assistance with pics of the actual installation. Best, Gerry |
Thank you, Gerry
I am still having some trouble imagining where precisely the bracket (#2 in the diagram) bolts to? I assume the two bolt holes on the left side of #2 connect somehow to the engine carrier, but still leave enough room for the oil temp and pressure senders. The 3.0 is in the car; I have a 2.7 on the engine stand in the basement. They appear the same, but the carrier in the 3.0 may be a bit different than the 2.7 carrier. I do know the brackets came off of this very same 3.0L, but that was a long time ago. Memory is the second thing to go. Edit: Found image...thanks, Skip! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/867634-how-install-ac-compressor-brackets.html |
And, I found the correct engine carrier, which has the holes for the A/C bracket. Makes more sense now!

This bracket stuff is horrid. I had to mod the actual compressor mounting plate to clear the EFI fuel rails, plus I had to build a new aluminum plate to use as a shim. Also. I believe the mount plate was for the old York compressor, and I found something with "Performance Aire" stamped on it, which the Seiko compressor mounts to. So, all of this crap is now cobbled together. I had to plug one end of the fuel rail, and tap the rail 1/4 NPT between #4 and #5 for the fuel inlet. There was no room to get the drive pulley mounted correctly with the engine carrier plate attached. Not to mention there wasn't enough room to get the belt onto the pulley. This is because I had to mod the pulley to accept the magnets for the Hall sensor for the EFI conversion, so now the AC pulley is an extra 1/2" rearward. Hi Pat,
Yes to all you said! It sounds like you got it, but if you still need photos, I may have some. That bracket #2 always confuses me, because it seems like it should mount lower down, rather than higher and to the left. The notch that it slips behind is not obvious at first glance. Good luck with the project! |
I got this all together. I am making a bracket to support the rear of the compressor off the 8x1.25 stud I had previously inserted into the right side cam tower (knock sensor, since deleted). Engine is now supported on it's own, rather than being held up by a floor jack. There is no room to get the belt off unless I cut it, so I hope this works until I can get the engines swapped in a couple of months. Pictures tomorrow. I am taking the road less traveled by.

My favorite route! :-)

Patrick,
Good luck with this project. Mine is long deleted, but I may live to regret that. The A.C. bracket is the only thing "A.C." left in my car for a good reason: it's difficult to get to.
