Question no joy

thanks for the link to italy ebay - those are not like mine with polished paddles

- as i understood it ricambio simply means replacement - is not a brand name

google translates Cerchi ricambio nuovi as Looking for new parts

Larry is correct, ricambio means replacement.

I'm going to guess Maxilite.

It has similarly too-narrow petals. Also Maxilites have the same text/statement. Although the picture I've seen has it in a different font and spacing (below).

Those pics are of a Maxilite that was stripped.

I could be wrong, but I think the text roughly translates closer to "not original parts/equipment."

What do the other spokes say? Order and/or choice of stamped information may also point to Maxilite, or perhaps another.

More here: https://rennlist.com/forums/wheel-and-tire-forum/780707-let-s-catalogue-all-the-fuchs-repros.html

Only other Italian replicas I've read about are "Route." Read about them once, so I don't know if they exist.

This is the Maxilite website: http://customer.maxilite.ch/en/index . You could probably send them a picture and they might be able to confirm for you.

FWIW, they are cast and not of great quality. I don't remember if they are made in Italy or China. You can get new Fuchs from the dealer, they are pricey but they are presumably Fuchs quality. Old Fuchs are just that; old and quite likely fatigued.

I stand corrected. Interested to find out the MFG. as well. I'm stumped!

thanks for the links

re: IT translation - we all agree "ricambi" or "ricambio" loosely means "repro" - at least we know they are not china or PI - and that it is not a "brand name"

re: "cast are junk" - fwiw - "The (maxilite) wheels carry a certificate from German TÜV who is performing the toughest wheel tests in the world."

(there's "cast" & there's "pressure cast" - which allegedly Porsche is now using) - my observations suggest that cheapo cast at the local tire stores are quite heavy by comparo -

re: narrow petal - my oem 16" fuchs measure about 1-1/8" at the root and 2-3/4 at the wide, these recambio are 1-3/8 at root, same at wide - so the repros are thicker at root (similar appearance as the maxilites above) which could improve strength vs oem forged, one suspects

awhile back i had a set of 4 18" turbotwist IT repros - the set i had were sold by TireRack "back then" - (so one would like to think TR vetted the quality??) - there was much forum converation about them and iirc the general thesis was that there is ONE IT mfgr making all these repros - and that they were credible quality "pressure cast" - it was also suggested by some that Porsche actually uses an IT mfgr for some wheels - maybe the same company??

The RENNSPORT link is great - but nothing there to match mine with high polish & non-anodized look- i'll add mine to that mix

Maxilite only offers black centers, but may be once they did else; mine don't have the same style backside all-on-one lettering on one petal as the ones shown by FrenchToast above, but mfg processes change over time, so who knows? - gregggearead adverts also claim TuV certificates - but gg also offers only black centers in this size - maybe gg is just re-selling maxilites?

anyway - i am not wanting them for track duty - only for show -

i already have real fuchs 7x16 all-around i use for street, 7&8x15 oem set, and a set of BBS RA 7&8x16 that i use for track -

( i had the petals pro polished on all my real fuchs to mimic early oem - cuz i have a black car - black centers just disappear on my car - i'm not into the murdered out look)

(& yes i know what genuine fuchs market value is nowadays - have no need to buy 'em for this limited purpose)

True. I was speaking more relatively, in that their quality is probably less than that of a new Fuch. I admit there are a lot of variables my statement did not take into account. There are several types of casting processes, and several types of forging processes. There is also age; fatigue, heat cycles, impact, cracks, bends, etc.

Not that I know of. They might do some minimal vetting, i.e. not selling products that blatantly infringe on patents and copyrights or are just shady to begin with. TireRack sells BremmerKraft wheels which I've read are pretty poor.

Your replicas would have likely been Mille Miglia. They are based in Italy but to my knowledge have never produced an OE wheel for Porsche. Their replica may have been official, requiring they purchase design rights from Porsche.

Porsche has used Speedline extensively for OE wheel manufacture, starting in the 90s. Earlier for race wheels. Speedline is based in Italy.

OE Porsche twists I think were manufactured by either SM or BBS, both German-based companies.

I've never confirmed, but I think GG does resell the Maxilites. Could be wrong though.
_

Back to your wheels. They should have a date stamp on them; what is it? Maxilite is a fairly recent company, so a wheel of a certain age might narrow it down.
