washer fluid tank

needed to remove my washer fluid tank on 1987 carrera. read the shop manual for instructions. seems that only one bolt holds the tank in place. the stainless steel strap does not connect to the body, as i thought it would be helpful for supporting the tank.
what is the purpose of this strap?

thanks,
dgc2

Hi dcg2- The upper portion of the strap (Strap Part No. #91162808102) does attach to the body on the steel member shown...

As an aside, here's my writeup on cleaning the system (with more images)

Weak Washer system solved! (Mold)

Hope this helps!

@dgc2 please accept my apology if I highjack your thread. I am dealing with a similar issue and wondering if the stainless strap also wraps around the side tabs on the fender bracket which are circled on the edited photo originally provided by @Missed Approach?

Very helpful, Missed Approach. The video seems to confirm the stainless strap wraps around the top and both left and right fender bracket tabs.

I also noticed Joe Engineer’s strap bolt has full threads, whereas mine does not. That may mean mine is bottoming out before the strap fully tensions up and secures the reservoir, thus the reason my reservoir keeps loosening up?

Again, my apologies to dgc2 for high jacking his thread.

. . . Also just noticed the top fender bracket tab has a diagonal extension that prevents the strap and reservoir from sliding off the top fender bracket tab and shifting towards the wheel.💡💡💡 Thanks again!

Hi Dg. 911SC Euro. Maybe the same, who knows. I happened to have the fender off so I took a pic for you.

Mine is held on with ONE bolt. A 10mm socket fits the bolt - I checked.

Mine has two tanks. The one on top is the washer tank and the one below is something to do with fumes from the fuel tank or supply. They look similar and are connected with this one bolt. It's the bolt you can see in the middle lower section of the pic and faces the front of the car.

dgc2 - not sure if this thread sufficiently answered your original question, but wanted you to know I was able to quickly and correctly install the washer reservoir in my ‘85. Second time’s a charm.

Getting the bolt across the reservoir strap required patience, but once the reservoir and strap were properly positioned in the fender bracket, I was able to use my left hand to pull the strap ends close enough to catch a couple of threads using my right hand.

Send a PM if I can be of any help.

Many thanks to Missed Approach who put me in the position to understand the anatomy. For the folks like me where blind ambition grossly exceeds common sense and skillset, this forum and its participants are invaluable resources. Thank you!!!
