Clutch pedal stiction
- Freshly rebuilt pedal box with bronze bushings
- New Gemo clutch cable (installed last Nov) - Clutch release shaft at bellhousing removed, cleaned and lubed with Sachs clutch grease - New Omega spring and pivot needle bearings cleaned and lubed Why does my clutch pedal have stiction? It's particularly annoying starting from a stop as you can't smoothly feather through the engagement. Slightly sticks, then moves quickly. Any obvious area to re-visit?

I had some stiction at the top of the travel of the pedal.
Additional tension in the cable and some grease on the pivot at the omega spring solved the issue for me. |

Great word. Highly accurate.
Not as bad as the OP for me, but I also have a **slight** stiction issue. Same replacements parts for me as well (pedal bushings + cable) and still have the EXACT same stiction issue as before. Thanks for the recommendation. Will give that a go.

Engagement point too high often causes that pop out feeling. Improper adjustment of the two adjustments does too. Oil on the disc will do it.

I have had to re-adjust this new cable more than seems expected. At least three times and I'm guessing another adjustment might be in order. I use the Bentley spec'd method - 1.2mm with cable loose, tighten to 1.0mm gap Last time I went a bit tighter which would cause a higher engagement. That could be it. I can duplicate the stiction in neutral with the engine off so I think that rules out clutch disc issues. Over the weekend I'll re-adjust and see if it makes any improvement

The clutch cable is a Bowden cable and must be positioned to achieve the correct arch or bow. Try positioning the cable with a higher bow and move it around until the cable slides feely.

as mentioned show us the routing of your clutch cable.
or... The more you lose the 15 mm nut towards the front the lower you get the release -ingage of the clutch...if you make it tight the release will be higher.. Ivan

I re-adjusted the clutch over the weekend. I kept the 1.2mm loose gap, but only tightened to ~1.1mm. The clutch now engages a bit lower on the pedal travel, which is an improvement, but the stiction is still present.
Heres a couple pictures, including the cable routing. Let me know if anything looks off... ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm not looking forward to pulling the pedal box, but I think that will be next. It really feels like the new bronze bushings are slightly sticking.

Did you try completely disengaging the cable from the big arm and checking how the pedal moves in order to see if the stiction is still present?
I'd also suggest intentionally over tightening the cable to see how it feels. Both Ivan and my local knowledgeable mechanic referenced the 1mm gap spec as "too loose". |

Not sure if it's possible your year 911, but a problem I've experienced while replacing the clutch cable on other Porsches is mis-routing it or even wrapping it around something inside the tunnel. Symptoms are usually more severe than what you're reporting, but may be something to consider.

i do not know what technique to adjust the clutch you are using..but what i see is that the gap between the little finger and the arm is too big...

Had the same thing and yes it is very frustrating to have that stiction when
Trying to leave a stop light. I had also replaced a few pieces on the clutch Assembly. I mentioned it to a young mechanic friend who has worked on a few older VW’s And he said you greased the pivot bolt when you put it back together right. I went home jacked it up and sprayed some lubricant up in there and like magic Clutch pedal is smooth as silk. |
