1971 2.2T Tool roll/ kit - restore or sell?

Hi

My 1971 2.2 T passed away a few years ago, but I still kept hold of the tool kit and jack. As you can see from the pictures they have some heavy patina ;)

I know I am at least missing the plyers and 3 open ended spanners, plus I may have picked up an extra screwdriver or two but as they are made in West Germany I have left them in the photos. The spanners are the correct "drop forged" spanners, but it will be hard to see that in the photos through the rust.

So my questions are should I get these soda blasted and then nickel plated, plus repair the roll itself, or do I try to sell them as they are? Can someone give me an honest view of the value too?

They came from a Californian 1971 2.2T, which was fire damaged.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

B. Johnson’s book lists the following items for ’69 and ’70 tool kit (71 has to be the same). It matches my tool kit which was in the car when purchased in 1978. (Few years to be corrupted. The plastic bag for fuses was gone, I replaced it with a small plastic box.

It is my opinion that completing the kit and restoring the contents will be way more expensive than you could recoup by selling it.

Bag
Spark Plug Wrench with Pin
19mm Wheel Nut Wrench
8 x 9 mm Open-end Wrench
10 x 11 mm Open-end Wrench
12 x 13 mm Open-end Wrench
14 x 15 mm Open-end Wrench
17 x 19 mm Open-end Wrench
19 x 22 mm Box Wrench
Screwdriver
Phillips Screwdriver
Pliers
Fan Belt
Plastic Bag with 5 Fuses
Fan Belt Wrench
Allen Wrench for Oil Drain Plug
Jack

Thanks Allen_70S for the list of contents, I appreciate it.

Any thoughts on what it might be worth with the Jack to sell?

Thanks again

The 19/22 box wrench is worth some money, so are the screwdrivers (assuming they will clean up). Somebody would buy the spark plug wrench and hex wrench combo for $50-$75. The rest is nickel and dime stuff, as-is.

still... i would clean and get it together....i have sold the flat screwdriver back in the 2009 for 160 bucks ..the close wrench 19-22 i got 140 bucks..does the allen 10mm has any writings on ,it like 911 DIN??

Go onto EBAY and look for Porsche 911 tool kits. Look at the insane prices for these kits! This should encourage you to clean up these tools, maybe buy a reproduction tool bag and make over one grand if not two grand!!!!!!

Thanks again Proporsche, Mocker, Allen_70S, Sunroof - great advice.

Just checked the prices on ebay and some of them are eye watering, I'm glad I'm not buying!

So should (for a 1971 car) the pliers be HAPEWE or SOLINGEN on them?

The open ended wrenches I have are marked Drop Forged Steel Germany on one side and nothing on the reverse. But from looking at some kits on ebay some have Alloy Steel on the reverse. What should mine be if I'm trying to build a set?

The 19/22 Box wrench has CHROM -VANDIUM on it and nothing on the reverse (should this one say Drop Forged Steel too?)

The allen wrench is marked DIN 911 SW10 KLEIN W.GERMANY, fan belt wrench is marked P208 and Spark plug is KLEIN 21.

Thanks again for all the stupid questions, but I'd rather make sure I have a period correct set before trying to sell it.

Thanks

Hi Greg,

Would you have a drop forged 17/19 open end for sale?

Many Thanks
