OT - VW Type I Question
I've got a Beck Spyder with a VW Type I, and managed to strip one of the oil pan threads changing the oil yesterday. the nut and stud are ok, it's actually the pan thread that's stripped. has anybody ever used a heli coil or cert on a Type I, or did they take the whole pan off and have it machined?
sorry for the off-topic question. I suppose I could post a litany of questions on the 911 spring cleaning, too, like installing the new steering wheel bushing sleeve that's coming this week from Pelican ;) thanks... |

What do you mean by "pan" - do you mean the "case" or do you have a deep sump?
A common procedure is to drill and tap it oversize, and use a step stud. One time, when I was in a tight spot, I used a bolt of the same size as the original stud pushed down thru the hole. |
