Cost of 2.7L engine
 

How much would it cost to buy a 2.7L engine in good, running shape? With the work to strengthen it already done? Thx.

I have found that it really depends. I looked and looked for mine for about 3 months before buying one. I ended up paying 2500 for a 75 "s", which some have told me is too much, but it already had the standard upgrades done (tensioners and stuff). They also did a compression and leakdown for me first, gave me everything i needed (wiring harness, starter, flywheel and clutch, and so on). It also came with a 4 month warranty. So, it seemed like a good deal to me. I bought mine from 20 St Auto in phoenix. They were great to deal with. I am sure you could find one on ebay for cheaper, but for the money it was nice knowing it wasnt coming out of some guys back yard.

Good running shape? I think the market for these is really dictated by the cost of the 3.0 liters out there. Most people rationalize that if the price of a 2.7 they're looking at creeps up too close to the price of a similar 3.0 liter, then the choice is a no-brainer.

Having said that, I would say a good, solid 2.7 could be worth $3-4K. The operative word is "could". Most of them seem to go for less than $3k. The 2.7s are much maligned, but they are actually fully decent engines when they are in good shape. I flogged mine around the streets and tracks of the southeast for almost 10 years (with no problems at all) before recently pulling it to make room for a 3.2....
