I used 3M Adhesive Remover and 3M Adhesive, worked like a charm. Just expect to use some elbow grease when removing the old adhesive.

For hard and crusty dried adhesive, you're better off starting with a scraper to get most of it off instead of trying to soften it with solvent. 3M adhesive remover takes forever if the crust is the original German organic glue.

If it's just dried carpet adhesive from the last time someone changed the carpets, the 3M adhesive remover dissolves it pretty easily.
