Oil cooler help -- Chuck M. or others....
Yesterday I bent the lower right half of my front mounted oil cooler on my '71E -- there is a hairline crack which isn't very visible in the picture... The tire was rubbing against it when turned to the left. I pushed the cooler back in place and at least it isn't rubbing anymore.
Fortunately the weather has not been hot enough that the thermostat has triggered the external oil cooler circuit. What should I do now? Can I have it welded, or does it need to be replaced? If so, Chuck, do you have another one you can send me? ![]() |

I m ay be wrong, but that is the stone guard and it did it's job. The Carerra cooler is behind it and a crack in the stone guard will not harm anything...then again I have a Mocal and a fabricated stone guard and have never worked with the factory coolers other than trombone.

Evren, in case you check here before reading your mail, H.D. nailed it. The shield did it's job. The cooler always holds some oil, so if you'd holed the cooler itself, you'd have known it.

ditto.........what is dented is merely the oil cooler COVER. behind it, sits the oil cooler which undoubtedly received no damage.

Buy them, sell them

Evren, how did you damage it? Did the wheel hit it during a moment of suspension compression (bottoming out), or did you pick up some road debris?

Nope, it was a very low impact incident -- we were barely moving. My cousin and I were about to park and pulled up by the side of the road. I guess the curb was higher than it looked and there was a scraping noise. The lower right corner of the cooler & cover was pushed back, so we shoved it back in until it snapped into place...
